Stop gambling on animals.
Did you know that around 24 horses die every week on the race track? (petakids.com)
Horses that are used for racing start training at two years of age. Just like humans, their bones are not fully formed, so they suffer injuries more often than older horses. When they are not doing well in racing any more, they are sold to other countries and are sold as meat.
These horses are taken from place to place to race, but often do not get to run around for pure enjoyment because of their rigorous training. They also do not get to socialize with other horses except when they are on the track. This is not how horses typically socialize. They are herd animals. They should be hanging out with each other to graze and wander around.
This is not an enjoyable life for a horse.
Greyhounds are still raced in a few places. In 41 states it is illegal. In my state, Kansas, it is legal, but there are no dog tracks. That does not make me feel much better though.
The states of Texas, West Virginia, and Iowa are still actively racing dogs. So is Arkansas, but, thankfully, that state will be phasing it out.
Like horses, greyhounds are not allowed the freedom to wander.
Greyhounds are kept secluded in cages until it is time to train or race. They have a high case of injury on the track and are raced in extreme heat and cold temperatures. They are treated inhumanely from breeding until death. Luckily, people are becoming more aware of this maltreatment and are standing up against it. Hopefully, there will be 50 states that outlaw greyhound racing soon!
We need to stand up against animal cruelty towards horses and greyhounds. We need to stand up against animal cruelty towards ALL animals.
These animals should not be raced for our pleasure or our monetary gain.
