Reuse plastic bags.
Since there has not been a ban on plastic bags yet in Kansas City, we have accumulated quite a few. I even use reusable bags, but sometimes they get left in the car. I do try to use brown paper sacks also, but when you buy fruit, and don’t have mesh bags, you are forced to use the plastic ones they provide.
When I do have plastic bags, I always make sure to reuse them. In the daycare, they get used for dirty diapers, wet clothes, or when the kiddos have too much stuff to carry home, and they don’t have a backpack with them.
They are great to use for pets as well. I use them when I clean out the litter box, clean out the rabbit cage, or when I am cleaning up the yard from the dog.
I use them when I am dumping old food from the refrigerator, and I don’t want to waste an entire trash bag with smelly food. I can just dump the small bag and continue filling up the big trash can.
I have taken the bags to use at the grocery store when I am buying meat, so I don’t have to take another one off the roll to wrap it up. They would be good to use at bulk stores if they allow it. I have yet to visit any of those stores, but am hoping to try one out soon. I do have a pet store that I could reuse them at to get rabbit food from the dispenser.
Whatever you decide to use them for, just make the choice to reuse them! When they are no longer reusable, recycle them or toss them in the trash if they are filled with unsavory contents- I am speaking diapers here!
I am hoping they pass a ban on plastic bags soon. There are so many alternatives to use that are better for the environment. Until then, happy reusing!
