Use an alternate form of diapers.
This is a tough one. I swore when I had kids that I would use cloth diapers. I did look into it, but at that time it was not a feasible option for us financially. I say this because I wanted the diaper service where they pick up the diapers from your house, wash them, and return them to you. I wanted no part of washing those things out! Even when my kids were potty training, I did not wash soiled underwear. They got tossed in the trash.
So, I understand that this is not an easy option, even though it is a better option for the environment. It is actually a better option for your child as well, since it avoids all the chemicals and dyes put into diapers.
Another option that is also eco-friendly is bamboo diapers. There is a new subscription service through http://dyper.com that provides diapers and then you can compost them through Terracycle® for an extra cost. I personally think it is an expensive service, but if you have the money, it is worth it, especially if you take advantage of the composting option. I am in no way getting any compensation for mentioning this company- I have never even seen the diapers. I have just been getting a lot of ads for them lately and do think they are a good environmental choice.
About twenty million disposable diapers are thrown into the landfill each year. (prnewswire.com) So, a solution does need to be found for this problem. Unfortunately, the solutions are costly right now, because there are not enough people that can afford the more environmental choice. If you ask me, it is another example of a company being more worried about the almighty dollar than the health of their customers and the environment. It should be the company’s job to provide the most environmental choice for a reasonable dollar amount so that many people can take advantage of it. It obviously gets me fired up!
I understand if you can not choose the more environmental choice when it comes to diapers. I could not choose that option either. If you can afford to make that choice, consider changing to a cloth diaper service or bamboo diaper service. At least some diapers will be saved from the landfill.
My spouse and I stumbled over here by a different page and thought I may as well check things out. I like what I see so now i’m following you. Look forward to exploring your web page again.
