Buy in Bulk.
Yesterday, I touched on buying bigger containers of things and using them to refill smaller containers to save money and plastic. Today, I want to focus on buying all kinds of products in bulk.
Buying in bulk can save money, but you definitely need to have the space to store it. I just bought a huge bag of dog and cat food because I had a $10 off coupon for each one. That was a huge savings I could not pass up. Now, I just have to find a place in the storage room or laundry room to keep it.
I belong to a warehouse club, so I do tend to buy paper products like tissue and toilet paper in bulk. I buy bulk cheese for the boys in the family and big bags of popcorn and tortilla chips. There are definite savings with certain things, but some foods will be wasted if I bought them in bulk. Think about if you will be able to use all the fruits or veggies before they will go bad if you buy these in bulk. Some you can freeze, but if you have a side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, like I do, that might limit your ability to store the extras.
I have started buying products out of bulk bins when there is a good deal on them. Then I store them in the mason jars I have. I like the look of the mason jars lined up versus all the boxes and bags. I plan on purchasing more products this way in 2020. It really saves a lot of packaging, so I like that it helps the environment. I like that it also can save money too.
The next time you are shopping, check out the bulk bins. I have been able to find nuts, dried fruits, and grains a lot cheaper than buying them in their packages. I also want to visit a bulk store in my community, but have not made it there yet. Check to see if you have one in your community and check it out!
