Don’t wear animals.
Where do you think your leather jacket came from? How about your suede shoes or your wool and fur coat? The process of getting these materials is disturbing and disgusting to say the least.
Leather is sourced from animals that are transported from China and India to places such as Italy. These animals are not only cows but can also include dogs, cats, sheep, alligators, goats, kangaroos, and ostriches. Yes, your leather jacket or shoes may have come from a dog or cat! Many of the cows that walk off the transport trucks to the leather manufacturers have injuries and bones popping out of their bodies from the harsh conditions of the packed and crowded trucks.
These animals suffer, live miserable lives, and ultimately die for our satisfaction to wear their flesh. We can make as many excuses as we want and try to make ourselves the victim, but we all know that animals are the real victim of this world. They have done nothing but purely exist, and a large amount of them are already destined for a life that is pure agony that we have created for them. Not only are the animals treated horribly in the leather industry, but so are the workers. The leather industry uses child labor and pays them unlivable wages. Luckily, there are many great alternatives for leather from websites that I will link below!
Suede, wool, fur, and other animal derived clothing, unfortunately, is pretty much manufactured in the same way as leather. It is derived from lambs, goats, pigs, calves, and deer. These animals usually live pretty similar lives to the animals used for leather.
I recommend researching the companies you buy from that manufacture bags, shoes, clothes, etc. before you purchase them. Many designer brands use animal derived materials.
I highly encourage switching to vegan alternatives of these materials. I will link below some great sites for clothes that don’t cause any harm to animals or affect our environment by producing greenhouse gases.
