Don’t leave the refrigerator door open!
This is a pet peeve of mine! When you go to the refrigerator, know what you are looking for so the door does not have to remain open for long.
I love some of the new fridges out there that have separate doors for milk and commonly used items. It is a much more energy efficient option.
Opening the fridge door is estimated to use seven percent of fridge energy. That is quite a bit of energy that could be saved if you go to the fridge knowing what you need to get, instead of fridge surfing.
The same rules apply to the freezer door. Every time a door is opened on a refrigeration or freezer unit, the optimal temperature needs to be reached again once it is closed. It takes at least thirty seconds to return to the proper temperature.
So, you are saving time, energy, and money by thinking before you open the refrigerator or freezer door. Be mindful of what you need or want.
