Day 72- Wash, Wash, Wash

Posted on March 13, 2020March 29, 2020

Wash, wash, wash your hands. I am sure we are all getting sick and tired of hearing to wash our hands. But the fact that people aren’t doing it is also what is probably making us sick and tired. How many of us have seen someone use the restroom when ( more… )

Day 71- Aluminum

Posted on March 12, 2020May 25, 2020

Recycle aluminum products. We all know that we should recycle aluminum cans, but only about fifty percent of them are recycled each year in the US. (mentalfloss.com) That leaves roughly 400 billion cans that still end up in the landfill. (greenerpackage.com) Most city recycling services allow aluminum recycling in their ( more… )

Day 70- Influencer

Posted on March 12, 2020May 25, 2020

Become an influencer. Being an “influencer” is a big thing right now on social media. It is even a profession! Anyone can be an influencer-let’s just hope they influence something positive instead of something negative. When someone is passionate about something, they tend to talk about it a lot. It ( more… )

Day 69- Turn off the TV!

Posted on March 9, 2020May 25, 2020

Turn the TV off when you leave the room. This is one of my pet peeves. I have never understood why someone leaves the TV on when they are not even watching it. Or they leave it on when they go into the other room for twenty minutes which misses ( more… )

Only recycle what you KNOW can be recycled. Recycling things that we wish were recyclable is called “wishcycling.” This happens very frequently and can cause a whole load of recyclables to become non-recyclables. Most cities recycle #1 and #2 plastics which are your pop bottles, water bottles, and milk jugs. ( more… )

Day 65- Trash Can Liners

Posted on March 5, 2020May 25, 2020

Skip the small trash can liners. This is a tough one. I have always used leftover grocery sacks or purchased liners for all the small trash cans in the house. For us, that is ten small trash cans and ten small liners each week. That is a lot of plastic! ( more… )

Day 64- Lawn Bags

Posted on March 5, 2020May 25, 2020

Use paper lawn bags. The best practice when mowing your grass, if it is not overgrown, it to allow it to stay on the grass. It will leach the good nutrients back into the ground and help the lawn grow fuller and greener. There is actually a term for it- ( more… )

Day 63- Dishwasher Detergent

Posted on March 3, 2020May 25, 2020

Use eco-friendly dishwasher detergent. On Day 61, I focused on laundry detergent, and today, I am moving the focus to the detergent we use in our dishwashers. As I mentioned in my earlier post, all fifty states have banned phosphorus in laundry detergents. But, dishwasher detergent has phosphorus in it ( more… )
