Day 24- Pencils

Posted on January 24, 2020May 25, 2020

Use wooden pencils instead of plastic pencils. There could be a little debate on whether plastic is better than paper when it comes to pencils. Some plastic pencils are refillable if users take the time to purchase refills and actually refill them. The refills are sold in small plastic boxes ( more… )

Day 23- Receipts

Posted on January 23, 2020February 20, 2020

Get email receipts or no receipts when possible. Did you know that receipts are not recyclable? The are not printed with regular ink and instead use chemicals that could release BPA into the air if they were recycled. They are also made with more than one type of paper, like ( more… )

Day 22- Disposable Razors

Posted on January 22, 2020February 20, 2020

Ditch the disposable razors. I used to use disposable women’s razors all the time. This was many, many years ago. Then, I discovered that the company I was using for my razors tested them out on rabbits. I found this out when I saw a very gruesome picture. From that ( more… )

Day 21- Change the filter

Posted on January 21, 2020February 20, 2020

Change the filter in your furnace. If you use a standard 1-2 inch filter in your furnace, you should be changing it every three months if not sooner. This will keep your furnace working at maximum efficiency. If you notice your house seems extra dusty, check your filter. If it ( more… )

Day 19 Ditch the Plastic

Posted on January 19, 2020February 20, 2020

Ditch the plastic wrap! Plastic wrap is a staple in many homes. I have some in my house as well. When this roll is used up, I will not longer buy it. Unfortunately, the roll I have is a commercial roll I got from an estate sale for a buck, ( more… )

Day 18- Kind Deeds

Posted on January 18, 2020February 20, 2020

Do Something Kind. This picture reminds me of all the animals that are being rescued right now from the bushfires in Australia. We may not be able to fly to Australia to help those in need right now, but I bet there is something you can do in your community ( more… )

Day 17-Insulate for Savings

Posted on January 17, 2020February 20, 2020

Insulate doors and windows that are drafty. I live in a house that was built in 1977. It may not be 100 years old, but it is plenty drafty! We have chosen to do all sorts of renovations over the 13 years we have lived here, but still have things ( more… )

Day 16 – Save the Trees

Posted on January 16, 2020February 20, 2020

Switch to using bamboo paper products. As I mentioned in a previous post, bamboo is a great resource for replacing traditional tree-made products. There are more and more bamboo paper goods coming on the market. I have seen paper towels, napkins, tissues, and toilet paper online so far. I have ( more… )

Day 15 of Saving the Planet

Posted on January 15, 2020February 20, 2020

Unplug rarely used devices. Have you ever looked around the house to see how many things are plugged in?Now look and think about how often you use each thing. I bet you will find many things that are plugged in that are rarely used. For example, I have a water ( more… )
