Day 120- Calendar

Posted on May 3, 2020May 25, 2020

Use a reusable calendar. Many of us use calendars in our daily lives. I use my phone calendar, a flip calendar, and a huge blotter calendar. The phone calendar reminds me of daily events, the flip calendar is used for birthdays and important yearly reminders, and the blotter calendar is ( more… )

Day 119- Bees

Posted on April 28, 2020May 25, 2020

Save the bees. There are an estimated 2 billion bees left in the world. Each year, in the winter, a bee colony loses some of its bees. Typically, that number is between 5-10%. Now, in the United States, those numbers are 30% or more each winter. (Greenpeace.org) This is a ( more… )

Day 118- Tires

Posted on April 28, 2020May 25, 2020

Recycle tires. Did you know that there were about two million tires dumped into the ocean in the 70’s? They were dumped in hopes that they would form another reef, which would allow a great place for people to fish. However, the idea backfired, and they are still working on ( more… )

Day 117- Solar products

Posted on April 26, 2020May 25, 2020

Use solar products. Solar power is a great alternative to other forms of power. When solar calculators were introduced in the 1970’s, they became popular student aids since they could use artificial light and also did not die in the middle of use. Now, there are many solar powered items ( more… )

Day 116- Rechargeable Batteries

Posted on April 25, 2020May 25, 2020

Use rechargeable batteries. Lots of items in our homes use batteries, especially if you have children. Although they are more expensive up front, rechargeable batteries obviously last longer than disposable alkaline batteries. They are better for the environment as well, since you are not using as many batteries and they ( more… )

Day 115- Overeating

Posted on April 25, 2020May 25, 2020

Don’t take more food than you can eat. I used to love buffets, even though I do not think they are the cleanest places to eat. I had to sanitize my hands after every trip to get my food, because I became paranoid of all the germs from everyone touching ( more… )

Day 114- Dryer Lint

Posted on April 25, 2020May 29, 2020

Remove lint from your dryer after every load. I did not used to get a lot of lint in the dryer. I checked the lint catcher after every load, but did not find a lot. It all changed when I got my new washer. I do not know if my ( more… )

Day 113- Dressing for the Weather

Posted on April 25, 2020May 25, 2020

Dress for the weather. This seems like a simple thing to say, but it can save quite a bit of money. When you dress for the weather, you can turn your heater down or your air conditioner up. You can open the windows and not have anything turned on at ( more… )

Day 112- Refrigerators

Posted on April 25, 2020May 25, 2020

Don’t leave the refrigerator door open! This is a pet peeve of mine! When you go to the refrigerator, know what you are looking for so the door does not have to remain open for long. I love some of the new fridges out there that have separate doors for ( more… )

Day 111- Fix the Drips

Posted on April 25, 2020May 25, 2020

Fix dripping faucets. The EPA measured that a one second drip from a faucet would waste 3000 gallons of water per year. This is the same as taking 180 showers. A lot of these drips can be fixed on your own. A simple o-ring, washer, or gasket is a quick ( more… )
