Day 110- The Basics

Posted on April 25, 2020May 25, 2020

Buy the basics and use the rest to do good. I have never been a “name dropper.” I do not care what brand of food I buy, as long as it tastes good. I do not care what brand of clothes I wear, as long as they look good on. ( more… )

Day 108- Circus/Zoo

Posted on April 20, 2020May 25, 2020

Do not support circus’ and zoos. If you have watched any of the Tiger King on Netflix, you know that just because someone says or acts like they take care of animals humanely, does not mean that they actually do. When I was young, I used to go to the ( more… )

Day 109- Growing food

Posted on April 20, 2020May 25, 2020

Start a garden or a greenhouse. Have you ever wanted to grow your own vegetables or herbs? In the last few years, I have grown peppers, tomatoes and green beans. I have been mildly successful and still have lots to learn about how to produce an abundant crop. My yard ( more… )

Day 107- Solar Panels

Posted on April 18, 2020May 25, 2020

Install solar panels. This is something I am going to be researching this year. I know of two houses in my area that have solar panels. One house has some on their outdoor garage and the other has a large single row like the one pictured above in their backyard. ( more… )

Day 106- Drying clothes

Posted on April 18, 2020May 25, 2020

Hang your clothes out to dry. When I was young, I lived in Florida for a few years. I remember having a clothesline in the backyard, and while hanging clothes one day I had my first encounter with a black snake. You would think that would shy me away from ( more… )

Day 105- Trees

Posted on April 18, 2020May 25, 2020

Plant a tree. 42,000,000 trees are cut down each year. (quora.com) Many of these are to make room for animal agriculture. So, any tree that we can replace is good for Mother Earth. Make sure to check your soil to see what will grow well. I have planted a plum ( more… )

Day 104- Environmentally Friendly Companies

Posted on April 18, 2020May 25, 2020

Shop with environmentally friendly companies. When I went shopping on my vacation in Florida last year, I discovered some great products from companies that were doing great things for the earth. Many of these companies use the money raised from their products to support the work they are doing. Some ( more… )

Day 103- Egg Cartons

Posted on April 18, 2020May 25, 2020

Reuse egg cartons. I save all my egg cartons. I try to always get paperboard egg cartons as well, since styrofoam is so bad for the environment. Egg cartons are great to use for learning and art projects, dying eggs, and for seed planters. I use them all the time ( more… )

Day 102- Trash

Posted on April 18, 2020May 25, 2020

Pick up litter you see. This seems like an easy one, but too often it gets missed. This is a great thing to start teaching your kiddos during the upcoming Earth week. If are taking a walk around the neighborhood, bring a trash bag with you. Bring a pair of ( more… )

Day 101- Stop wearing animals

Posted on April 12, 2020May 25, 2020

Don’t wear animals. Where do you think your leather jacket came from? How about your suede shoes or your wool and fur coat? The process of getting these materials is disturbing and disgusting to say the least. Leather is sourced from animals that are transported from China and India to ( more… )
