Remove lint from your dryer after every load.
I did not used to get a lot of lint in the dryer. I checked the lint catcher after every load, but did not find a lot. It all changed when I got my new washer.
I do not know if my washer loosens more fibers or cleans better than my old one, but now I always have lint in the dryer. After towel loads, there is A LOT of lint in the lint catcher! If I did not clean that out, it would be a BIG problem.
Excessive lint in the dryer makes your dryer less efficient in drying time. In turn, it takes longer to dry which wastes more energy. But more important than this, it is a big fire hazard. Twenty thousand fires are caused by dryer lint each year. (thespruce.com)
Not only is it important to get the lint out of the lint catcher in the dryer, but it is also important to get the lint out of the actual dryer where the catcher is located. Don’t forget to get the lint out of the vent that leads out of the house as well. We are always finding lots of lint caught in there.
Because I am a fanatic about recycling and reusing, I save my dryer lint in a basket to use as a fire starter in my outdoor fire pit. It works amazingly well. It can also be composted in a backyard composter, so when I have enough saved for the fire pit, I compost the rest.
So the next time you run your dryer, make sure to empty your lint catcher and look into the catcher slot to see if it is dirty as well. Make a special trip outside to look at your outside vent as well.
