Use rechargeable batteries.

Lots of items in our homes use batteries, especially if you have children.

Although they are more expensive up front, rechargeable batteries obviously last longer than disposable alkaline batteries. They are better for the environment as well, since you are not using as many batteries and they are not getting into the landfill.

To make sure they don’t get into the landfill, whichever batteries you choose, make sure to recycle them when you are done with them. Check out the hazardous waste facilities in your area to see where you might be able to recycle them.
