Stop supporting rodeos.
I have never been a fan of rodeos, but I definitely am not since reading about the harm that comes to the animals in this sport.
A sport is an activity when someone performs a physical skill for entertainment. This skill is performed with a goal in mind- to win or attain some reward.
Let me ask you this- what is the animal receiving for their participation in these sports?
From the research I have done, it seems the only thing an animal receives is pain and stress.
Sometimes these animals are “encouraged” to perform better by having spurs, electric prods, flank straps, or tail twists used against them. Why do you think a “bucking bronco” bucks? It is because the strap is causing pain to their abdomen, and they want it off! This is not the kind of entertainment I get pleasure out of watching.
The animals used in rodeos are normally docile animals. The treatment they receive in this sport turns them into “wild” animals.
“The ASPCA is opposed to all rodeo events that involve cruel, painful, stressful and potentially harmful treatment of animals, not only in performance but also in handling, transport and prodding to perform. The ASPCA recognizes the cruel treatment inflicted on many additional animals in the process of practicing to compete in rodeo events. Further, the ASPCA is opposed to children’s rodeo events such as goat tying, calf riding and sheep riding (“mutton busting”), which do not promote humane care and respect for animals.”(aspca.org)
When spectators are watching the rodeo, they are watching and supporting the rough treatment of animals. Is this what we want our younger generation to support and participate in? Just something to think about…
Research for yourself before you buy tickets to the next rodeo in town-
