Fruit washing tip:
Wash fruit immediately before you use it.
If you are eating fruit that comes in packages, like berries, just pull out the ones you want to eat and wash them.
If you are using an entire package of strawberries or a whole bunch of grapes, a great fruit wash is a dash of vinegar in a bowl of water. Let the fruit sit in there for a few minutes and rinse well. It is amazing how much dirt is on fruit! I do not use this method for raspberries, but I do for other berries.
I always wipe off melons and skinned fruit before I cut them or eat them. I do not want any dirt or chemicals on my knife or my hands when I am cutting or eating them.
When you buy bananas, separate them from their stems so they last longer or purchase the single bananas since some stores throw the singles away at night. What a waste that is!
A good rule of thumb is to put unripened fruit on the counter until it is ripe and once it is ripe, place it in the refrigerator for longevity. I have a tendency to keep it on the counter too long, since I like some of my fruit at room temperature, but I always end up having to throw some away. I am going to work on this, since I know the amount of food wasted and thrown into the landfill is astronomical.
