There are many options when it comes to handling your menstrual flow.
One is the menstrual cup pictured above. I have never tried one of these before and although the reviews say it is easy to use, I am still apprehensive about using one. If you have any feedback on this, feel free to comment below.
I have tried some of the period underwear products out there. The Thinx™ panties are my favorite so far. They are comfortable and have different products for different flows. My daughter and I both use the hiphugger style. I have also tried Tulip™ panties. They are comfortable, but a little stiffer than the Thinx and also make a swishing sound when you walk which is a little annoying. Once you use them, they need to be washed in cold water until the water runs clear. Then, they can be thrown in with the wash or hand washed. I hang mine to dry inside or outside if the weather is nice. The upfront cost is high, but they are cheaper in the long run.
I want to try the reusable cloth pads that are available as well. I think they are a great concept and should be pretty comfortable. Same rules apply as above when washing these pads. There are many places to find them, so once I try them, I will let you know what I think.
Right now, for disposable products, I only use 100% organic cotton tampons and pads. I also only choose the cardboard applicators, so I do not use plastic. My goal is to swap out all the disposables for reusables this year. Wish me luck!
