Tip generously.

I know this might create an uproar for some people, but I believe when you are out and getting served by someone, they deserve to be rewarded for it.

As a daycare provider, I know what it is like to work long hours and have to deal with less than pleasant people sometimes. Kiddos have a different temperament every day, and I never know what I am going to get. It is the same for those that work in the customer service industry. Did we choose this job- yes- but does that mean it is always easy or enjoyable-no. I am sure this applies to your job too. No job is perfect every day.

Every job has its ups and downs. Every person has their ups and downs. I don’t think a person should be punished for having a bad day. Not to say that snarky service should be rewarded, but a normal tip amount (15-20%) should be given. You never know what is going on in that person’s life.

I have seen service staff chastised for food that was not delivered as ordered, or undercooked/overcooked food, and it makes everyone around that situation uncomfortable- mostly feeling for the poor service staff that has to hear it. There is a right way and a wrong way to get good service and degrading someone is definitely the wrong way to go about it!

There is a waitress at a nearby Mexican restaurant that we eat at pretty frequently that we swear could be a Disney™ princess! She is always smiling, attentive, and perky. She talks to you with a kind voice, and you know she wants to provide you with the best service possible. She is a person we tip generously every time we are lucky enough to have her as our waitress. It does not hurt to give people a kind word as well telling them how much you appreciate their service. Positive reinforcement does wonders!

So, the next time you go out to eat at a sit-down restaurant, think about the service you are receiving and be as generous as you can with your tip and words of gratitude. You might just make their day- or yours!
