Turn the TV off when you leave the room.
This is one of my pet peeves.
I have never understood why someone leaves the TV on when they are not even watching it. Or they leave it on when they go into the other room for twenty minutes which misses most of the show.
I am not a person who loves background noise. Maybe it is because I am around noise all day, so when I can get some peace and quiet, I soak it up. Leaving the TV on when no one is watching it is a waste of energy, and a drain on your tv.
The average lifespan of an LED TV is between 40,000-60,000 hours. (www.reviewed.com)Why would you want to waste some of that having it on for background noise? With DVR and On Demand services a popular option for households, there is no reason to waste the longevity of your TV.
I feel the same way about having the TV on at night to go to sleep with. If you feel you need that noise to go to sleep, at least have a timer set for it to go off. There have been many mornings I have found my kiddos TV’s on when I wake them up. That doesn’t make mama very happy. I do realize I could take the TV’s out of their rooms, but they should be responsible at this age (they are both teenagers) to turn them off when they are not using them.
So, as much as I love watching TV, I hate seeing the TV on when no one is in the room. Maybe this bothers you too. Save some energy and turn it off when you are done, or teach others in your household the value of turning it off when they are done.
