Use environmentally friendly nail polish and polish remover.

I love having my nails done.

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always wanted long painted nails. Not ghoulishly long- just manicured long nails. My friend and I used to wrap clear tape on our nails and paint them and then play store with calculators to hear that little click-click that long nails make. Silly- I know.

I have never had a shortage of nail polish. All colors and all brands. I was not picky. I always had my nails painted, even though I could not keep it on my nails for long with all the hand-washing that providing child care requires.

When gel nails became a big thing, I started doing those at the salon. But, like hair coloring, it became expensive to keep up the habit. Every two weeks- gel nails, every four weeks- hair coloring. That is a lot of money each month going to the salon! Unfortunately, I did not have the funds to keep that up. So, I started doing both at home.

I love the gel nail kit I got online, and it has worked pretty well. Loreal® hair color is my $10 friend. I have saved tons of money using both. But, neither are good for the environment with all the chemicals they contain.

So, a few years ago, I found some environmentally-friendly polish at a women’s conference. I have found some at my health food store. I have not looked online, but I am sure there is plenty to find on there. That is the only polish that I purchase now.

Last year, I found an environmentally friendly nail polish remover. It is super conditioning and smells good too. It is in a glass bottle as well, which I love. I found it at Beauty Brands® and have seen it at Target ®as well. I will put the name and picture of the polish and remover brands in my Woo-Hoo Product Review section of the blog.

If you are as fond of polish as I am, consider using a less harmful one for yourself and for the environment. The smell alone will be worth the change!
