How to Keep Markers Out of the Landfill

KimJanuary 11, 2019

Ever wish there was a place to send your dried up markers, highlighters, and dry-erase markers so they don’t add to the landfill waste? Well, there is!

Crayola™ Colorcycle is the place! Right now, they only sponsor K-12 schools, but hope to add residences, preschools, and child care centers soon. They supply the shipping label- you just supply the box and markers! They do not have to be Crayola™ brand either. They accept ALL brands and types of markers.

I have an account set up with Colorcycle with the nearby elementary school as the sponsor. I am the contact person and just send in the boxes when full. They prefer at least 100 markers, which does not take long to collect when you have lots of kiddos contributing!

If you have a kiddo in school, I would recommend partnering with the school and placing a collection bin in the main hallway and also in the art room. Check it once a month and see how many markers you can collect! I always feel good knowing I have saved some unnecessary waste from ending up in the landfill.
