There are many chores that “littles” can do around the house. My kids are teens, but here is a list of helper jobs that the daycare kiddos (ages 2-5) can choose from each day, along with some other jobs “littles” can do in a home environment.
- put recyclables in recycle bin, put trash in trash can
- set the table for meals
- water plants
- help make meals ( pour ingredients in bowls, stir, serve own food out of bowls, assemble sandwiches, etc)
- wipe up spills (with water- I recommend Norwex ™ cloths since they disinfect with just water and are safe for little hands
- help load the washing machine, sort the clothes into loads, sort socks from the dryer, load the dryer
- use hand vac, dust- recommend Norwex™ dusting mitt as it captures the dust, They have one in child size!
- clean their room- show them tips, but let them do it! I know too many parents that do this chore for their kiddos! Be patient with them- it may take more than one day to complete this chore, as their attention span dictates how long they can focus on it.
- feed the pets
- help pick up the yard- sticks, raking, toys
Remember that “littles” learn what they are taught. Expose them to lots of different jobs around the house at an early age, and then it won’t seem like such a chore later. It is important that all family members contribute to the household in ways that they are able.
Do you have other jobs you ask your “littles” to accomplish during the day? Feel free to comment, and I will add your ideas!
